The study of Computing is designed not just to teach and improve your skills in using computer programming languages, but also to enable you to understand the kind of reasoning used by both humans and machines. The study of Computing demands both logical discipline and imaginative creativity in the selection and design of algorithms and the writing, testing and debugging of programs. It relies on an understanding of the rules of language at a simple level and encourages an awareness of the management and organisation of computer systems. It will require you to investigate and understand situations beyond the school environment and the appreciation of the effects of computer applications on society and individuals. For these reasons, computing is a relevant choice whether you are studying Arts subjects or Science subjects.

What you need to get on

A minimum of 5 GCSEs, grades 4 - 9 (A* - C) including Grade 6 in Mathematics.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
