What the college says

In the first year students create a portfolio of coursework in response to a number of themes. As part of their planning students are expected to research contexts, observe and record relevant sources, analyse and evaluate their own and others' work, explore media, develop and refine their ideas and realise their intentions with a number of finished 2D or 3D pieces. These projects are set by the centre and provide opportunities for students to develop skills in a wide variety of media and understanding in a range of contexts. As the course develops students are expected to exercise their own artistic choices, including planning their own personal investigations which contributes to their coursework submission in Y13. In the final stage of the course students use the same working practises to respond to an externally set exam paper, creating preparation work which informs the final timed 15 hour exam piece.

What you need to get on

To study Fine Art you will need to have achieved GCSE Grade 5 or equivalent in the subject.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
