The study of English Language at A Level provides students with the opportunity to develop and strengthen the full range of skills they acquired throughout their two years of studying English Language at GCSE. Unlike A Level English Literature, the Language A Level paper allows students to write creatively a range of both fiction and nonfiction texts. It also allows students an opportunity to explore the linguistics of English, studying diverse topics including the links between voice, language and identity and the acquisition of language during early childhood. This qualification is suitable for students wishing to study the following subjects at University level: English Language, English Language & Literature, Linguistics, Media, and all related Humanities subjects (History, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Anthropology, etc.)

All subjects have an average points score (APS) requirement; this is the average GCSE grade achieved in Year 11.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
