Economics is about choice and the impact that our choices have on each other; it relates to every aspect of our lives, from the decisions we make as individuals or families, to the world fashioned by governments and businesses. An economic way of thinking can help everyone make better choices. A well regarded, traditional, academic subject, Economics is the cornerstone of successful, highly paid careers in multi-national corporations, government, global NGOs, international finance and law, industry analysis, and environmental/sociological consultancy. Please note that for study at university, Mathematics is often required as a complementary A Level.

What you need to get on

The general entry requirement to be offered a place at Urmston Grammar Sixth Form from September 2026 is a minimum of five GCSE passes which include: 2 x grade 7s, 3 x grade 6s, GCSE grades must also include a minimum of grade 5 in English Language & Maths. To study this subject at A Level we would expect you to have achieved a Grade 6 or above at GCSE, or in another Humanities subject at GCSE, such as Business Studies, History, Geography or Religious Studies.
