As a subject Computer Science has aspects in common with Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Languages. You need to develop your capabilities to solve challenging problems (like Maths) in the contexts of programming a project and answering examination questions.

What you need to get on

The Computer Science GCSE is very good preparation for the A level that builds on it. Statistical analysis of results shows that Computer Science students who also take Maths A level have a tendency to achieve better results. A grade 7 at GCSE Computer Science or ICT is required to study at A level. If not studied at GCSE, students with grade 7s in Maths and Physics will be considered provided they can submit an annotated coding portfolio, to demonstrate good knowledge of coding.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
