What the college says
The Chemistry A level syllabus sees the topics arranged into the traditional three branches of Physical, Inorganic and Organic chemistry. Students will study 5 main topics: inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, data handling and practical skills. The last 2 are focused on the experimental and investigative elements of Chemistry. Chemists work in a wide range of settings including education, finance, forensics, health & safety, industry, lab work, law, consultancy, media and sales & marketing. In the past three years students studying Chemistry have gone to university to study a variety of Science related subjects including Medicine, Midwifery, Biomedical Science and Pharmacy.
What you need to get on
At least 5 4-9 GCSE grades (or A*-C legacy GCSE grades) with a minimum of 6,6 or above in GCSE Combined Science, and 6 or above in GCSE Mathematics
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
