What the college says
Level and Exam Board OCR AS Why choose Chemistry? Chemistry is a prestigious A level which can lead to a wide variety of university degrees and professional careers. The A level is a crucial precursor for degrees in Chemistry, Medicine, Veterinary Science and Pharmacy and careers in Engineering and Forensics amongst many others. What does the course involve? We aim to explain the world from the properties of atoms, molecules and chemical bonds. If you enjoy scientific study and practical work and are happy to combine imaginative critical thinking, then Chemistry could be for you. In lessons you will be using varied skills. You might be drawing 3D structures, calculating energy changes or measuring liquids with a precision of one drop. Learning will be done through class discussions, individual research, group work and practical work. At AS level the course covers Atoms, Bonds, Chains and general scientific skill development. The course then develops to A Level to include studies on Rings, Energetics and Elements. Contact sdavison@nunthorpe.co.uk
