Chemistry AS Level This course is for students who want to continue studying chemistry after GCSE. You'll already be familiar with some of the topics, but the A level will give you the chance to study these and some new ones, in much greater depth. You might be choosing chemistry because you're headed for a scientific career, though it will give you skills such as analytical thought, problem solving and research that can be used in a wide range of non-scientific careers too.
What you need to get on
GCSE Chemistry at grade 6 or above or grades 66 or above in GCSE Combined Science. Students also need GCSE Maths at grade 5 or above.
How you are assessed
Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
What this level means
The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
