What the college says

If you work or would like to work in a support role in education this course is for you. As part of the course, you must gain practical experience to complete the qualification so if you aren't already employed or volunteering, you will need to be working or volunteering in a classroom setting for at least one day per week. This course will give you the knowledge and skills you'll need for employment in positions such as teaching assistant, learning support assistant or special needs assistant in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

What you need to get on

It is recommended that you hold or are working towards a Functional Skills qualification at level 2 or a GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English. But this is not essential. You must be in employment (paid or voluntary) in a school for a minimum of one full day per week, working in a classroom setting with children aged 7 and above. (Any day of your choice)

How you are assessed

Two-year technical qualification with a 45-day industry placement. Equivalent to three A levels.
