What the college says
The AQA Advanced Level art courses are similar to the GCSE courses which will enable students to engage in practical and critical study using a variety of media and processes. This will include building up a portfolio of work supported by a sketchbook and preparation boards leading to a final fashion piece. If students are taking the AS course then there will be an externally set assignment. In the second year of the course; students will gain more independence as the course progresses which will lead to a personal investigation and an externally set assignment. Textile Design is an extremely stimulating and creative course whereby students will be introduced to a variety of experiences; explore a range of textile media and techniques. Students will build up their portfolio through one set theme involving work in areas of fashion textiles, fashion/costume design, fashion illustration, art textiles, surface pattern and embellishment. Students will be encouraged to broaden their artistic and design skills through a series of workshops in order to work independently developing their own ideas into creative final pieces. Students will investigate historical and contemporary practices of fashion and textile designers through a sketchbook with the opportunities to visit art galleries and exhibitions during the course.
