What the college says
Over two years of study you will complete two components entitled: Component 1: Personal Investigation and Component 2: Response to an externally set assignment. You will begin the course with a short 'skills based' project in the first half of the Autumn term to prepare you for study at A' level. You will base your Component 1 investigation on a personal interest, issue or theme and through this you will engage in research and explore materials, techniques and processes, producing work evidencing development of ideas and critical/cultural/contextual references. Alongside your practical work you will enhance your ideas through annotation and through a written 1000-3000 word essay which reflects your interests, insights, decisions and intentions, showing critical understanding and analysis of work investigated and undertaken. You will produce a series of ideas and a final outcome(s) for this component. Component 2: Externally Set Assignment The externally set assignment is aimed at assessing students' ability to work independently in response to a chosen starting point taken from the examination paper in your second year of study, carrying out investigations, developing ideas, realizing your intentions and making appropriate and relevant connections to critical/contextual material. You will have 20 hours to complete a final outcome(s) under examination conditions.
