Art and Design (A Level )
at The Streetly Academy, Sutton Coldfield · school or sixth form
What the college says
Students may choose to study Art and Design at A Level as a route to higher education courses such as architectural design, textile design, and illustration & game design amongst other related visual courses. At A Level you will be expected to produce two units of work for assessment. Assessments will be made on your ability to record observations; analyse and critically evaluate sources such as images, objects, artefacts and texts demonstrating an understanding of meaning and context. You must develop your ideas through sustained investigation, selecting and using appropriate materials and analysing outcomes. Finally you must realise your intentions in a final piece or pieces. Assessment: Component 1: Personal Investigation. This is a practical investigation supported by a written response of between 1000 and 3000 words. Weighting: 60% of the A Level grade. Component 2: Is an externally set assignment which consists of a preparatory period leading to a 15 hour unaided, supervised time where students must produce a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes. Weighting: 40% of A Level grade. Non-exam assessment (NEA) set and marked by the centre and moderated by AQA during a visit to the centre. Marks are submitted by the 31st May. Visits will normally take place in June.
