Sociology is one of the most popular A level subjects at Sidney Stringer Academy. It involves the study of the functioning, organisation and development of different types of society. It enables students to extend their knowledge and understanding of many issues that they have studied at KS3 and 4 in History, Citizenship, Psychology and R.E. It is a contemporary subject suitable for study by students who want to investigate and debate current issues in society . You will study 4 Modules : The family, Education, Crime & deviance, and Beliefs in society. Alongside these modules you will also study research methods and their application to different sociological issues. Sociology provides a good link with other A level subjects particularly Psychology, History, R.E, English Literature, Media studies and Law.

What you need to get on

You need a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade A*-C , which should include English at grade 5 and a grade B in another Social Science subject. If you have alternative qualifications which are equivalent to GCSEs, your application will be considered on an individual basis.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
