Aimed at School Leavers. Sociology is the study of society, people and behaviour.As a Sociology student you will analyse how society functions and why human beings behave in particular ways. In the first year, students will study a range of topics based on the Family and the Household, including the nature of Childhood, Family diversity, Social change and wider societal changes such as the impact of divorce. Students will also investigate Education with Research Methods including topics such as the Function of Education, and issues such as Gender, Class and Ethnic difference in achievement and wider contemporary issues including Government policies.In the second year we will explore the role of beliefs in society. Discuss the relevance of religion and link to sociological theory. The synoptic module, which is also in second year is very popular with all students and is the study of Crime and Deviance and the repercussions on society. The lecturers on this course have designed and implemented a wide range of activities to suit every learning style. You will be continually assessed to support your learning and ensure that you reach your potential with the highest grades that you are capable of.
What you need to get on
To study an A Level programme you will need to achieve a minimum of three grade 5s and two grade 4s at GCSE including English Language and Maths at grade 5. Each individual subject carries its own entry criteria and some subjects do require higher grades than this.
