What the college says

The study of mathematical methods and models helps to develop logical and ordered thought and the techniques complement all combinations of A level programmes. With the pure modules you will be extending your knowledge of such topics as algebra and trigonometry as well as learning new concepts such as calculus. If you really enjoyed the challenge of problem solving at GCSE, then you should find A level Maths very appealing. Statistics shows you how to effectively analyse and summarise numerical data in order to derive conclusions about it. You will extend the range of probability problems that you studied at GCSE Discrete mathematics looks at using and applying logic and algorithms to solve problems in context. Following this A level course you could continue to university, to study any number of mathematical based disciplines. Maths is recommended for many degrees at university. Due the demand and challenge of a Maths A level it can also demonstrate that you are hard working, self motivated and intelligent. You may not use algebra or probability in your job every day, but the transferable skills of logic and problem solving will come in handy. Students are required to complete bridging module at the end of the summer examination period and prior to September in order to prepare the students for the rigour of A level course.
