What the college says

Most of the course will be Core content; covering topics such as algebra, trigonometry, calculus, logarithms, exponentials, vectors and graphs. There will be a Mechanics element to the course which will cover topics such as Newton's laws of motion, projectiles and forces; this will make up about a sixth of the course. Furthermore, there will be a Statistics element to the course which will cover topics such as probability, the Binomial Distribution, the Normal Distribution and hypothesis testing; this will also make up about a sixth of the course. The new specification is a fixed syllabus; that is to say that there will be no option to study particular fields of Mathematics in A-Level Mathematics as there has been before. The new specification also comes with a new 'data set' element where students will be required to study a large data set in class using spreadsheet and graphing software. There'll be a need to recognise trends, outliers and erroneous data for the examination. The data set itself will not be provided in the examination but extracts could appear in the question paper.

Students are required to achieve 5 x 9-5 grades at GCSE Level including English and a minimum of a grade 6 at GCSE Maths
