This course is for students who want to continue studying mathematics after GCSE. You'll already be familiar with some of the topics but the A level will give you the chance to study these and some new ones in much greater depth. Maths is a facilitating subject which means it will prepare you for a wide range of degree subjects. It's a good combination with most other subjects you can study at A level and will give you a useful set of transferable skills including logical reasoning, problem solving and analytical thinking skills that can lead to many different careers. As well as being a very interesting and important degree subject in its own right and leading to a variety of careers, A Level Mathematics is a vital building block for many other subjects. A typical university course in medicine, geography, science, psychology, economics, engineering and computer science, for example, will use knowledge and techniques covered in A level Mathematics. The course also provides students with the necessary skills to begin to explain the world around them in an elegant and concise way. Research by the Russell Group of leading UK universities states that students taking A Level Mathematics increase their earnings by over 13%, compared with those of non-mathematicians In a nutshell - A level Mathematics is enjoyable, interesting and highly valuable.

What you need to get on

Grade 7 in GCSE Mathematics. GCSE Further Mathematics, or equivalent, is an advantage but is not essential.
