This new specification for A Level History is intended to ignite and engage your interest in the past. As part of the A Level course you will study the history of more than one country and state in addition to the study of British History; undertake a thematic study, covering an extended period of 100 years and explore a topic in history that you have a personal interest in through the coursework element. The aim is to create independent learners, critical thinkers and decision makers: skills that make you stand out as you progress to higher education. History is a subject valued by employers and universities.

What you need to get on

The minimum entry criteria for studying Level 3 subjects at Millom School Sixth Form are: 2 grades at grade 4 or above in GCSE English and mathematics plus 3 grades at grade 4 or above in other subjects. No prior knowledge of History is required; however, we recommend that you have attained a Grade 5 in GCSE English. It must be emphasised that this is not a requirement but may prove helpful, especially when accessing the higher grades at A Level.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
