What the college says

We recommend that you gain a grade 6 or above in History at GCSE, as without this level of prior attainment you will struggle to reach the level required for A level. This is a step-up from GCSE but the way you have been taught at GCSE will make the A Level course easier to adapt to. You will be expected to talk and explain your answers and to be prepared to argue and debate. You will also need to be able to write answers that are several sides of A4 by the end of the course. There will be the expectation that you do regular homework, personal study and read around the topic. There will be a lot of quiz style homework to make sure that you learn the key facts and improve your recall over time. The emphasis will be on you organizing your time in order to maximize your progress. This is a course which prepares you for Higher Education. Due to the rigour of the exam questions students are required to produce arguments and not simply learn and repeat answers. The more you research the topics, the easier this will become.
