Year 12 Logical problem solving and computer programming accounts for 50% of the course. As students advance in their programming, increasingly difficult problems are presented for them to solve, building up to solve a complex problem scenario released in advance of the practical onscreen programming examination. Computer Science theory accounts for the remaining 50% of the course, where students learn theory of computation, how the internet works as a global network of computers and the impact that computer use has upon our lives. Year 13 Students' knowledge of theoretical computer science is deepened, exploring emerging areas such as Big Data, functional programming and advanced data structures used in programming. In Year 13 students complete an extensive independent programming project creating software to solve a real world problem or a scientific simulation.
