A- Level Art and Design: Photography
at Cleeve School, Cheltenham · school or sixth form
What the college says
A Level Photography enables students to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of Photography through understanding how an SLR Digital camera works, editing photographs and experimenting altering images in order to communicate ideas. They will visit exhibitions and experience workshops. The first term allows students to build up their skills through a series of teacher led workshops and mini projects. Students need to be resourceful with ideas and able to source interesting locations in order to undertake photoshoots. At A Level the students work on an extended major 'personal investigation' project producing a body of work which they choose independently. This can include anything the student feels appropriate to their selected theme, issue or concept which shows a development from an initial starting point to a final realisation. At A Level is the study of how photographers work and express their ideas and feelings relating to different times and contexts. The personal investigation is supported by a written study of approximately 3,000 words. The externally set assignment is a question paper which gives a variety of starting points which the students select one question to respond to. The final exam is 15 hours long.
