What the college says

This introductory welding skills qualification allows you to learn the basics of effectively carrying out welding operations in a range of joints and positions. The course can be taken at level 1 or level 2 depending on your experience and will help you to develop the skills required to take on basic welding tasks through to complex welding and quality control.

What you need to get on

For level 1, you are not required to have any formal entry requirements, but an interest in, or some basic knowledge of, the welding industry. For level 2, you should have completed a level 1 welding qualification or be currently working in the welding industry and looking to develop your skills further to increase your responsibilities, skills and knowledge.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
