What the college says

In this course you will learn the basics of Hairdressing and build the foundations of a successful Hairdressing career with topics including how to create a variety of haircuts, colouring effects, and styling techniques in line with current trends and fashions. Lessons will be held in a professional commercial salon environment where students will practice new skills on training heads in preparation for client services. Students will be provided with opportunities to research and investigate the history of hairdressing and the importance it plays in todays hair fashions. Students will discover the importance of English and Maths and the important role they play in the industry from timing services, mixing and measuring chemicals, reading manufacturers instructions and so on. Students will learn to adapt communication techniques to meet a variety of social and cultural needs.

What you need to get on

GCSE grade 4 in four subjects with at least one of these in English or Maths.

How you are assessed

Two-year technical qualification with a 45-day industry placement. Equivalent to three A levels.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
