This qualification has been designed to help you understand the skills and knowledge needed to work in the sport and active leisure sector. You will be encouraged to participate in a wide range of sport and active leisure activities. Through participation you will be required to demonstrate your ability to prepare for the activity, teamwork, time management, and health and safety. You will develop your knowledge of sport through the Level 2 Certificate. In addition you will study a further qualification preparing you for employment in the sport and active leisure sector. There will be opportunities to gain a range of work related and volunteering experiences, as well as a formal qualification relating to your intended career. Course content will include: •Sports Coaching •Skills Development •Physical Fitness and Injuries •Employability and Career Opportunities in the Sport and Active Leisure Sector This course starts in September 2018 and will be completed in one year. Assessment will occur continually throughout the programme. You will have unit assignments to complete and will be assessed on your practical and coaching ability. You will also have time-constrained assignments, as well as oral presentations. You are also required to undertake externally set and moderated assignments which will comprise a number of written tasks. Each individual unit and the full award are graded at pass, merit or distinction.

What you need to get on

•2 GCSEs at grade A* to C/4 plus GCSE English at grade 3 or above •Or successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma in Sport along with a favourable student review (attainment, attendance, punctuality, and attitude) •You will also require an active involvement in sport, health and/or fitness

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
