The Preparation for Adulthood (PFA) programme, developed by the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi), supports young people as they transition into adult life. It focuses on four key areas: employment, good health, independent living, and friends, relationships and community inclusion. The Futures curriculum builds confidence, skills, knowledge and positive behaviours, preparing students for further education, employment or independent living within a nurturing, personalised environment. This programme is designed for students with inclusion needs who require additional support, including those not yet ready for Level 1–3 study due to prior attainment or other learning needs. It is non-accredited and assessed through RARPA, celebrating individual progress. English and Maths are included at appropriate levels, with learning carefully sequenced across the year. Curriculum areas include Life Skills, such as budgeting, cooking, travel planning, personal presentation, online safety and healthy lifestyles; Work Skills, including employability, work experience, job applications and interview preparation; Communication and Customer Service, focusing on effective communication, teamwork and confidence; and an Enterprise Project covering budgeting, stock management, marketing and community engagement. On completion, students can progress to Aspire, Level 1 study programmes or supported internships leading to employment.

What you need to get on

There are no formal entry requirements, but students should demonstrate English skills at Entry Level 3 and a willingness to learn and progress. This course is aimed at learners aged 16–18 and adults with an EHCP naming it as their chosen course. Adult learners should contact Student Recruitment to explore suitable Level 2 or Adult English and Maths pathways before progressing.
