Students will typically be required to have at least an 8 in gcse maths to study further maths. Pure maths units: Algebra and functions, coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane, further algebra, trigonometry, vectors, differentiation, integration, exponentials, and logarithms, proof, algebraic and partial fractions, functions and modelling, sequences and series, parametric equations and numerical methods. Applied maths mechanical units: modelling in mechanics, constant acceleration, forces and motion variable acceleration, moments, forces and friction, projectiles, application of forces, further kinematics. Applied maths statistical units: Data location, measures of location and spread, representations of data, correlation, probability, mutually exclusive and independent events, statistical distributions, hypothesis testing, regression, correlation, conditional probability, the normal distribution. Progression routes: maths provides a pathway to a variety of areas including economics, medicine, psychology, architecture, teaching, engineering, environmental studies and accountancy.
