Biology B A level is a qualification that combines the study of traditional Biology with more modern concepts. There are 3 examined units and the science practical endorsement, with each unit being examined in the summer examination series. Unit 1: Advanced Biochemistry, Microbiology and Genetics (paper code 9BIO01). Unit 2: Advances Physiology, Evolution and Ecology (paper code 9BIO02). Unit 3: General and Practical Principles in Biology (paper code 9BIO03). Papers examined for Units 1 and 2 are worth 30% each of the overall marks. Paper 3 is worth 40% of the overall qualification. Each paper will include multiple choice, short open, open-response, calculations and extended writing questions. A fourth paper (paper code 9BIO04) is an internal assessment of 12 core practical (externally moderated).

What you need to get on

You need a minimum of 7 GCSEs at Grade A*- C, including Mathematics at a grade 6 and English at a grade 5. If you are a triple science student, you will need ABB, with a minimum of a B grade in Unit 3 for Biology GCSE. If you have studied Core and Additional Science an AA grade will be required with an A grade in the Biology unit.
