What the college says

The aim of this course is to help learners settle confidently into college life while developing greater independence, communication and everyday life skills. Learners explore a range of curriculum areas, including English and maths, social skills and community-based learning, helping them build confidence and develop skills for daily life. The programme includes termly subject rotations, allowing learners to experience different vocational and creative areas such as catering, art and design, performing arts, music technology, construction and personal planning. Learners also take part in life skills, sport and fitness activities, as well as small group sessions designed to support personal development, confidence and emotional wellbeing. Work experience placements are included to help learners begin to understand the world of work and explore possible future pathways.

What you need to get on

To join this course, learners must be aged between 16 and 24 and have an Education, Health and Care Plan. No previous qualifications or work experience are required. Before an application can be progressed, the Supported Learning department requires a consultation with the local authority to ensure the course is suitable for the learners individual needs. This process is usually supported by the SENCO at the learners current school, who can help arrange the consultation and provide guidance.
