Are you creative and looking to specialise as a Nail Technician in the beauty therapy industry? This course will give you the practical skills you need to provide a range of services, such as manicures, pedicures and nail enhancements. You'll also learn the latest nail art techniques from our expert tutors. Course content: Working in Beauty related industries. Health and safety in the salon. Client care and communication. Promote products and service to clients. Create an image, based on a theme. Salon reception duties. Manicure treatments. Provide and maintain nail enhancement (using an acrylic nail system). Nail art. On successful completion of this course you may progress on to other programmes in College or work as a nail technician. Studying Hair and Beauty at Barnsley College will enable you to develop skills for a range of careers such as: Barber, Beauty Consultant, Hairstylist, Nail Technician, Salon Manager, Spa Therapist. We pride ourselves on delivering outstanding lessons to allow you to achieve, succeed and progress into new and exciting destinations. You will participate in enrichment industry week - an opportunity to 'try something new'. Professionals from Dermalogica, Wella and Steiner are invited in to college to demonstrate, train and inspire students. You will take part in external competitions such as World Skills allowing exciting opportunities to compete nationally and internationally. What you need to get on

No qualifications needed but a genuine interest in this area is essential. You should enjoy communication with members of the general public and should have a commitment to training. Students will normally take part in an interview and an initial assessment prior to being enrolled on the programme.

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
