What the college says

The mass media of the internet, film, television, newspapers and advertising play a significant part in our daily lives. This is a challenging subject where you will look critically and analytically at online media, magazines, institutions, audiences, drama, advertising, and marketing. You will investigate media industries, popular culture and digital technologies to understand how television, film, journalism and online media inform, entertain and influence us. The subject combines practical and theoretical work in order to facilitate an understanding of key concepts including ‘representation’ or ‘audience’, as well as developing a range of specialist skills.

What you need to get on

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths. Grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language. Grade 5 or above in a GCSE written subject eg. History, Geography, Humanities, English Literature, Business, Media Studies, Religious Studies (full course), Drama or Film.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
