A Level Media Studies is designed to enhance your enjoyment, understanding and appreciation of the media and its role in our daily life. The course introduces you both to media ideas and the practice of production, which gives you the chance to develop a real understanding of media platforms, the contemporary media landscape and the influential role of the media in today's society. In the first year you will study two key aspects of the media: Investigating Media - Unit 1 and Creating Media - Unit 2. In the second year you will look at different ways of explaining and understanding the media and how it works in Critical Perspectives - Unit 3. Unit 4 - Research and Production, you will carry out an individual piece of work that will give you the chance to really understand the relationship between research and practical production.

Students are expected to have achieved a minimum of a level 5 in English Language at GCSE and level 4 in GCSE Maths

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
