Mathematics (Further)
at Cockermouth School, Cockermouth · school or sixth form
What the college says
Part of the Double Maths course, this will take up two option blocks and leads to two A levels, one is titled Mathematics, the other is titled Further Mathematics. This is not a standalone course and must be taken alongside the single maths (Mathematics) course. Apart from acquiring mathematical knowledge, it is considered that students of this subject develop the ability to improve their problem-solving skills and to think logically. There is also recognition that students who study maths will experience challenges, often very difficult ones, and are prepared to work hard to overcome the difficulties.
What you need to get on
At least a good grade A is required. Most students have an A* at GCSE. Students certainly will also have to enjoy maths. Eighteen lessons per fortnight is a lot of maths.
