Core Maths is an umbrella term for a type of Level 3 post-16 Maths qualification. This course can be taken alongside A Levels and vocational qualifications. It is equal in size to an AS Level, and carries the same UCAS tariff. Studying Core Maths allows you to continue to develop your mathematical skills during your time at college and apply what you have learnt at GCSE to real-life applications. This one-year course is usually studied as an additional qualification in your first year, alongside your main programme of study. It is equal in size to an AS Level and carries the same UCAS tariff points. The qualification is valuable for any student planning a future that requires strong mathematical and numerical skills, whether that be in higher education or employment. Degrees such as Biology, Psychology, Geography and Business Studies all expect a high level of mathematical competency that can be supported by studying Core Math

At least 5 GCSEs graded 9-5, including a grade 4 or above in Mathematics.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
