This course will encourage students to develop their understanding of Mathematics and mathematical processes. It will enable you to reason logically and to construct mathematical proofs. Students will recognise how situations may be represented mathematically and how ‘real world’ problems and mathematical models are related, notably within mechanics and statistics. The course also promotes confidence within the subject, fostering enthusiasm and enjoyment of mathematics. Students opting for Mathematics will receive 4 hours of teaching a week. There are three examinations for Mathematics A Level with the majority of the content consisting of Pure Mathematics with some compulsory Mechanics and Statistics content also. All examinations will be sat at the end of Year 13. Pure Mathematics consists mainly of algebraic and geometric topics and their applications. It includes topics such as calculus, trigonometry, vectors and logarithms. Mechanics which studies the effects that forces have on stationary and moving objects Statistics which studies the collection and analysis of data and the drawing of conclusions from it Mathematics is essential for those seeking higher education courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Computing and Electronics. This course is also regarded as a facilitating subject by top universities and it combines well with Biology, Geography, Economics, Psychology and Physical Education and allows you to keep more options open for future career ch
