What the college says

The new Core Maths qualification will help students retain, deepen and extend their mathematics and be better prepared for higher education and employment. Core Maths will help them to understand and apply clear, mathematical reasoning to real-life problems, analyse and interpret data in various contexts and confidently deal with everyday financial maths. It helps to develop students’ mathematical skills and thinking and supports courses such as A-level Psychology, Sciences and Geography as well as technical and vocational qualifications.

What you need to get on

GCSE Maths at grade 5 or above (Higher tier preferable). Studying Core Maths is a particular advantage to students studying A Level courses in any of the Science disciplines, Psychology, Geography and Product Design, each of which requires a significant element of mathematical understanding.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
