This one year programme is designed for those wishing to take the first step in preparing for a career in the protective services. You will study 6 units and sit 2 exams and cover the broad spectrum of Public Services. The Role and Work of the Public Services (Exam) Working Skills in the Public Service Sector Citizenship, Society and the Public Services (Exam) Multi-day Expedition Experience Health, Fitness and Lifestyle for the Public Services Crime and its Effects on Society and Individuals Land Navigation by Map and Compass Security Procedures in the Public Services Compulsory residential activities to develop team work and practical skills are an integral part of the course. There is an additional cost to cover these trips, day trips, sports kits, travel costs associated with team games or residentials, and guest speakers. This charge is paid at enrolment and is non-refundable. The Learner Support Fund is available and could help assist in paying towards these fees.
What you need to get on
You will need 3 GCSEs at grades 3 (D) in English and / or maths is desirable OR Successful completion of a full Level 1 Diploma in Public Service (pass required). Internal Applicants will need a BTEC NQF certificate. All internal targets set by tutor must be met. You will need to be dependable, energetic, prepared to work hard and willing to become a disciplined member of a team.
How you are assessed
One subject in depth, assessed largely through coursework and projects.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
