This qualification is designed for new entrants to the industry, providing them with the basic skills and experience they need, or for those who have successfully achieved the Level 1 course. The certificate will suit students who want to learn the basics of electro-technical principles and practice. It allows students to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the electro-technology sector. This is a qualification that tests both practical and knowledge-based skills in a realistic working environment.

What you need to get on

Students need four GCSE passes at grade 4 or above, preferably including Maths and English, or a vocational L1 qualification at pass or above Students who have not yet achieved grade 4 in GCSE Maths and English, will study L1 programme Ideally students would have completed a Level 1 electrical course or have undertaken a technical subject at school. Use of basic tools and some hand skills would be useful.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
