What the college says

The role of the Bricklayer is to accurately and consistently lay bricks, blocks, stone and masonry materials to architect specifications and industrial standards. They work inside and outside of buildings, constructing and repairing masonry structures such as walls, chimneys, fireplaces, arches and specialist brickwork. This course is the next step to a career as a Bricklayer, following the completion of either a Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying or significant experience in the trade. You will gain further understanding of the construction industry and have an opportunity to apply intermediate bricklaying skills in a practical and realistic way. You will follow a programme of study that enables progression to further courses and employment within the construction industry. You will also gain confidence by developing further independent learning skills and will learn how bricklaying activities are carried out safely and how they contribute to our built environment.

What you need to get on

You will need a grade 2 or equivalent in GCSE Mathematics and English language or literature to gain entry on the. Should you not achieve this you should still apply, each applicant will be invited to attend an interview with the course manager, circumstances can be discussed and all successful candidates will gain a place on the programme. A keen interest in the role will be advantageous in pursuing this rewarding and well-paid career.

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
