This one year course is designed for those interested in working in the construction industry as a bricklayer and is an excellent progression route from the Level 1 qualification The course content is a mix of practical and theory work which includes how to set out a building, using measuring and levelling techniques, interpreting drawings and specifications, and the laying of bricks to half a brick wide and solid one brick-wide walling to a variety of bonds. You will also study the laying of blockwork and brickwork to cavity wall construction and installing components e.g. lintels, DPCs, cavity trays, wall ties, insulation and weep holes. Additionally, you will also gain key knowledge concerning health and safety and the wider construction industry. Our qualifications are taught by fully qualified industry professionals, passing on their knowledge to allow you to enter a driven industry and lead in the future of the sector. Studies at the Stephen Burke Construction Academy allow you to progress in safe, realistic working environments. You’ll learn practical skills alongside the underpinning principles required to be successful in the industry. All courses offer enrichment opportunities and work experience with partners in the industry such as St. Modwen Homes to offer the chance to complete exciting customer and industry driven projects and gain experiences which bridge the gap between education and employment. Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or an equivalent qualification including GCSE maths grade 3 or level 1 equivalent in maths

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
