This course aims to provide a basic knowledge of Construction and to develop and practise basic skills for employment and a career in this sector. This is an ideal course for those who are looking to learn on a full-time basis; have identified they want to enter the construction industry and are looking to identify the specific craft area for a career. Construction Skills study programmes start with an Entry Level 3 award, a Level 1 Certificate or Level 2 Certificate. Learners typically progress from this to either a Level 1 Extended Certificate or a Level 1 Diploma in a craft area or the Level 2 Certificate in Multi Skills. Learner’s progress from the Level 2 Certificate to a Level 2 Technical Certificate/Diploma in a craft area. On a Construction Skills study programme, you will learn through classroom teaching and activity incorporating IT access. The College has designated workshops and through practical activity, you will develop your skills. This learning is supplemented with engagement with industry specialists. The extent of this depends on the study programme and varies from guest speakers and site visits to carrying out practical activity in a live environment supervised and assessed in this environment.

What you need to get on

4 GCSEs at Grade 9-3, including English and Maths. All learners will be required to complete a BKSB assessment.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
