Combining practical learning, theory and work placement, this course teaches the skills, knowledge and personal qualifications to support a wide range of careers, including early years assistant, educational support assistant or progression to a Level 3 Early Years course with full license to practice. Mandatory early years and primary education practical experience in a work placement will prepare you to gain employment in an early years setting or progress to a qualification with a full licence to practice with the early year's sector. You will also have the opportunity to take part in a learning company to develop your business skills.

What you need to get on

This course is only available to those aged 16-18 years. GCSE English Language or Maths at grade 4-9 plus four GCSEs at grade 3-9 (one must be English Language or Maths) OR Successful completion of a relevant Level 1 course (eg. Caring for Children - Level 1) with GCSEs grade 3-9 in English Language and Maths plus relevant work experience within the industry.

How you are assessed

Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
