The curriculum contains six subject groups together with a core made up of three separate parts. Students study six subjects selected from the subject groups. Normally three subjects are studied at higher level and the remaining three subjects are studied at standard level. Students choose at least one subject from each group (Environmental Systems and Societies can count as a group 3 or group 4 subject). Additionally there is a degree of flexibility as to any additional subjects (from groups 3 and 4) that can be added to Group 6 to ensure each student has the opportunity to design the exact combination of subjects that they desire. All three parts of the core—extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity, action, service are central to the philosophy of the Diploma Programme and to pass the IB Diploma students must succeed in their subjects as well as the core. What are the three core requirements? 1. Extended essay: The extended essay is a research topic and has a prescribed limit of 4,000 words. It offers the opportunity to investigate a topic of individual interest, and acquaints students with the independent research and writing skills expected at university. 2. Theory of knowledge (TOK): The TOK course is designed to provide understanding by exploring the nature of knowledge across disciplines, encouraging an appreciation of other cultural perspectives. 3. What you need to get on

We welcome applications from motivated and appropriately qualified students. To apply for a place in the sixth form you should be: 1. In full time and continuous education 2. No older than 16 at the start of your courses 3. Resident in the UK or have appropriate diplomatic status 4. Able to show evidence of good attendance, positive behaviour and work ethic as shown in the reference part of the application form 5. Able to demonstrate you will meet the entry requirements as follows: GCSE or equivalent passes at grades A*-B in 8 different subjects. For science subjects you must have minimum grade B GCSE on the general or separate science paper. For mathematics at standard level you must have minimum grade B GCSE and at higher level grade A.
