History combines the excitement of exploration and discovery with the sense of successfully confronting and making sense of complex and challenging problems. The purpose of historical enquiry is not simply to present facts but to search for an interpretation of the past. Historians attempt to find patterns and establish meaning through the study of evidence. One of the advantages of studying History is that it is a broad subject which complements other subjects. It provides skills and understanding that will always be valuable in any career. A Level History builds upon your existing skills gained at GCSE, giving you a sound understanding of historical principles. The emphasis of the A Level history course is on historical knowledge and the skills required for historical research, with students gaining knowledge in cause and effect, continuity and change, similarity and differences and the use of historical evidence.
