Throughout the first year students will study the period surrounding the War of the Roses 1445-1509, Tudor Foreign Policy 1485-1603 and begin their independent coursework study. They will continue with these elements in Year 13 along with a study of Russia from 1894-1941. Students study the relationship between different aspects of history, such as the political, economic, social and cultural dimensions. Students will need to come ready to be taught how to study independently, as well as in groups. Students must be able to use PEEL paragraphs, to analyse and explain. They should be able to evaluate and analyse sources to reach a judgement.

What you need to get on

To study history at Coombe Dean you will be required to have an interest in the past, an enquiring mind and a positive work ethic. It is recommended that students have studied history at GCSE level and have strong English language skills. We would recommend a grade 4-5 and above in history and English for students to be able to take A Level history, but we will review all students on a case by case basis.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
