History in the Sixth Form enables you to continue exploring the way people behaved, thought and felt in the past. You will have the opportunity to study some of the leading political figures of the twentieth century, their motives and far reaching consequences for society at the time and for our world today. The Course During the A Level course you will have the opportunity to study England in the Tudor period, 1485 - 1603. This study in breadth will allow you to examine a time of remarkable change, religious turmoil and some of English history's most memorable characters. In contrast the in-depth study focuses on Russia, from the revolution in 1917 to the death of Stalin in 1953. The period covered is one of twentieth century history's most fascinating and turbulent periods, encompassing the extremes of human tragedy and achievement. You will also undertake an historical investigation of 3,500 words considering reasons for German unification in 1871, within the context of a 100-year period. You will find that lesson activities will be varied but the common element is participation. Discussion is an essential part of studying history so being a good listener as well as a good speaker is important. You will be given guidance and support in the skills of effective reading, note taking, essay writing and examination technique. Additional Opportunities Previous groups have enjoyed visits to Berlin and the USA as well as attending student study days.

Our minimum entry requirements for September 2026 are six GCSEs at grade 6 or above, including English Language and Mathematics. Applicants must achieve Grade 7 or above in each of the subjects (or related subjects) that they wish to study at A Level.
