What the college says
History is a facilitating subject which is highly desired by universities. History offers the opportunity to investigate aspects of the past in significant detail focusing on change and continuity as well as looking at particular features in depth. History requires an evaluative approach and a critical mind. Historians at The Radcliffe School will have to look in depth at the periods being studied and take an active role in forming their own opinions and judgements about historical controversies. The programme of study at The Radcliffe School is the AQA specification, and we specialise in the following modules: Challenge and transformation Britain, c18511964 and; Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 19181945. History can be useful in many different careers such as journalism, law, research, medicine, marketing, advertising and education. Any career where prospective employers look for candidates with excellent research skills, who have the ability to form supported judgements or can critically analyse points of view will be viable for students of History. History complements a wide range of subjects especially English, Sociology and Geography and links can be made with Psychology, Languages, and Economics. History is an essay based subject and will benefit from other subjects that focus on students writing extended answers to questions.
