You will follow the AQA specifications and all your language skills will be developed while studying a variety of aspects of contemporary culture and society in the German-speaking countries. You will also study a German- language book and film. There are three examinations: Unit 1 consisting of listening, reading, writing and translation exercises worth 50% of the A Level mark (45% of the mark for AS) Unit 2 consisting of essay(s) in German on films and books studied – one at AS level, two at A Level – worth 20% of the A Level mark (25% of the mark for AS) Unit 3 consisting of speaking on the language topics covered, incorporating a Research Project at A Level, worth 30% of the mark at A and AS Level

What you need to get on

A minimum of 5 passes (grade 4 or above) at GCSE, including in both English and Maths (not including Level 2 vocational qualifications) and Grade 5 in GCSE German.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
