What the college says

AS level German encourages maximum use of the language, with lessons normally conducted in the foreign tongue. The course is designed to enable you to develop and build on the skills acquired at GCSE, and to provide a much deeper insight into Germanic culture and society. Choosing to study German you will achieve a practical language skill in a variety of contexts and registers, whilst being offered an intellectual challenge: the skills of analysing and expressing ideas and arguments coherently and accurately both in essays and orally are developed.

What you need to get on

Our entry requirements are five grades awarded 9–5 at GCSE/L2 merit or above at BTEC/CTEC equivalent including a minimum of GCSE Grade 5 or above in English & Maths. In addition, some subjects require a GCSE Grade 6 or above in specific entry requirements (see pages 12 and 13). A level 2 BTEC/CTEC Merit counts as an equivalent GCSE Grade 5. Students who do not have a Grade 4 in English Language or Maths will be required to retake these qualifications.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
