Geography is a fascinating and contemporary subject. The A Level course allows you to make connections between different aspects of geography. It is a course that focuses on fundamental processes, reflects the world around us and fosters an understanding of what could impact on its future. - Allows a balance between students’ own physical, human and/or environmental interests and key geographical topics. - Allows you to engage critically with real world issues and places - Will help to develop key skills of investigative geography (fieldwork and research skills), powers of synopticity discussion, evaluation and decision making - Will develop students that are critical and reflective learners, able to articulate opinions, suggest relevant new ideas and provide evidenced argument in a range of situations. Geography is one of the facilitating subjects for entry to the UK’s top universities. It is a subject that is suitable preparation for a wide range of university degree courses and employment opportunities. The analytical skills as well as the deeper understanding of all global issues are exceptionally advantageous for any employment opportunity. Geographers look at issues from a wide perspective and develop a range of skills which are attractive to a very broad range of future employers” (Prospects Graduate Careers website, 2014) such as: management and administration, further training, the financial sector, the retail sector and other professions. There are 4 compulsory days

What you need to get on

Grade 5 or higher at GCSE Geography. We are also happy to consider students who have not taken GCSE Geography and are interested in the geographical topics outlined. These students must have a Grade 5 or above in GCSE English, GCSE English Language or GCSE English Literature.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
