Geography is a wonderfully diverse subject that is relevant to our lives and experiences. You will have the opportunity to learn in a variety of different ways in order to gain a greater understanding of the world around us. The Course In the Lower Sixth the course consists of two main units: ??Area of Study 1: Dynamic Landscapes. This includes the study of tectonic processes and hazards, and coastal landscape systems. ??Area of Study 2: Dynamic Places. This includes the study of globalisation, and shaping places including regeneration and rebranding. Fieldwork is an integral part of the course. Currently, all year 12 students attend two separate field days to Weston Bay, Somerset and Bristol in order to meet the requirements of the AS assessment. In Year 13, the course offers the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of issues and changes in the wider world. You will study themes including Water Insecurity, Energy Security, Superpowers, Global Development and Climate Change Futures. You will also complete an independent investigation which is worth 20% of the final mark. Additional Opportunities We have a long tradition of fieldwork in the department. Over the last eight years, many geographers have also enjoyed an exciting week in Iceland and we hope to continue offering this opportunity. We also encourage students to attend enrichment talks and workshops run through the Birmingham Geographical Association, which is based at our school.

What you need to get on

Our minimum entry requirements for September 2026 are six GCSEs at grade 6 or above, including English Language and Mathematics. Applicants must achieve Grade 7 or above in each of the subjects (or related subjects) that they wish to study at A Level.
